9 Things Professional Organisers Use

9 Things Professional Organisers Use

One of my biggest guilty pleasures is watching TikTok videos from professional organisers. Much like Cher Horowitz in the 1995 classic, Clueless, It gives me “a sense of control in a world full of chaos”. If it’s a rabbit hole you’ve never gone down, I’d recommend you give it a go. It’s weirdly intoxicating.

And in the many hours I’ve spent watching obsessively organised people straighten up their junk drawers or implement systems into their under sink cabinets, there are a few recurring ideas and products I’ve come across.

So here they are, tried and tested from the professional organisers on TikTok. And for even more clever storage and organisation ideas, have a gander on my Pinterest board { o r g a n i s e }.

Command Centres

This seems to be a pretty popular idea in American homes, and seems like a clever idea. By designating one place for post, calendars, keys, bags, dog leashes etc., you could completely streamline your morning rush. This is an idea I also included in my Back to School home hacks post, that you can read here.

Back of the Door Storage

Professional organisers tend to make clever use of space many of us wouldn’t even consider using, like backs of the doors. This is a great spot for those things we all have but don’t often have a proper spot for, like wrapping paper and giftbags..

Pegboards

A favourite of Julia Child and professional organisers, pegboards have long been a versatile and affordable way to store cookware, crafting materials and fashion accessories.

Cable Boxes

You don’t necessarily have to buy specific boxes- you can reuse your pre-existing containers- but keeping your cables and electronics organised like this will make your home 92% more organised. (Okay, I made that up, but given how much clutter tech creates, I’m probably not far off!)

Grab and Go Storage

Easy to access storage for those grab and go items like disposable tableware (preferably the compostable kind!) and water bottles will free up space in your cabinets and make getting ready in the mornings so much easier.

Everyday Essentials Drawer

Corralling all of your everyday essentials into wipeable drawer dividers is a great way to keep your morning routine running smoothly. You can use another cabinet for all of the self-care products you use weekly, monthly or as back-ups. But by keeping your daily must-haves together keeps things edited.

Centre Console Organisers

Like the cable boxes, you don’t necessarily have to purchase anything new to implement a system into the centre console of your car. You could reuse packaging or even matchboxes to keep your essentials at arm’s reach when you’re out and about.

Cabinet Organisers

Cheap and cheerful, and can be used several different ways, cabinet organisers are a godsend for people like myself who have a lot of kitchenware and not a lot of kitchen!

Junk Drawer Dividers

Designating a specific place for those random items we tend to accumulate is a must if you want to keep your home clutter-free. You can even get special battery holders to keep your collection neat and tidy for when you need them.

Pouches for Warranties

Keep all warranties, instruction booklets and manuals in the one place with inexpensive folders or pouches.

Lazy Susans

Lazy Susans (or turntables as they’re more commonly called here) are a brilliant way to keep food containers accessible in our cabinets and fridges.

Binders

Like the pouch idea, but turned up a notch. Binders are a great way to keep hard copies of important documents neat and safe.

Broom Grippers

Keep cleaning equipment accessible and clean with an inexpensive broom gripper or set of hooks.

Label Makers

Few things I love as much as my Dymo label maker. But even if yours are homemade, labels are an absolute must-have for keeping everything in its rightful place as well as making your home easier to navigate for visitors.
